The social conflict isn't new, it dates back to the first civil war when the south was forced to become part of the Union. They may have lost the war but never the white supremacy grievance as Marco Rubio pointed out to European leaders. The divide is actually clearer than the picture you paint, white supremacy colonial ideology has never left the house, it was simply relegated to the basement to fester and become inbred. The people following white supremacy grievance have always been supremacists only under wraps because it had to be camouflaged. tRump gave it legitimacy and a right to be out in the open and once again a pinnacle to be reached.

The left is scattered because it's reflecting the "me" culture writ large. It seeks to highlight the differnces and blame and shame those who are privileged thereby ensuring that the divides get wider as we all struggle against each other for recognition as the biggest tragedy, the greatest victims and differentiation causes infighting among people who should be coming together as allies.

The right doesn't have to do much to deflect the anger and get people fighting in class instead of recognizing that the fight is between classes. If they could all see the reality of the struggle it would be over before it begins.
